The firm began in 1921 when Joshua W. Miles opened his office to practice law. Joined by
D. Sylvan Friedman in 1933, the firm has provided a continuum of legal representation for
families, businesses, estates and trusts for over three quarters of a century. Known as Miles
and Friedman for many years, the firm changed its name to Friedman & Friedman in 1977,
and became a limited liability partnership in 1996. Louis F. Friedman is currently the
Managing Partner for the firm.
The most distinguishing feature of the firms practice is the loyalty of its clients from one
generation to the next. Many clients represent the third and fourth generation of families
who have relied upon the firm to provide legal advice in good and bad times; to help them
deal with simple and complex problems; and to assist them with life changes by offering
information and resources, as well as counsel. The firm regards maintaining this trust as the
